Trailside Coastal Modern Kitchen & Dining Room

As we continue revealing rooms from our project with Tri Pointe Homes’s development, Trailside at Meadowdale Beach, today is the day we’re sharing the kitchen and dining room from the Trailside Coastal Modern model. To balance out the coastal with the modern, I mixed the lighting a lot on this floor, opting for matte black iron like in the chandelier for the dining room and some fresh-feeling matte white pendants in the kitchen. They had the right amount of impact for each space and I kept it consistent on the finish to tie them together.

How To Pick a Dining Table

When picking a dining table, take the dimensions and pull it back 3-4 feet so you have enough room to circulate—this helps inform the size and shape of the table. The size and shape will tell you how many chairs you’ll need and what sizes they need to be. I went with this farmhouse-style dining room table and paired them with these really cool wicker chairs that I just love and a rustic console table that can act as additional counter space for entertaining. While I tend to avoid rugs in dining rooms (people can be messy!) I loved this textured slate rug to add some deeper tones to this space.

The Coastal Modern Kitchen

I believe the flooring, walls and the kitchen elements can have some of the biggest impact in the home. When it comes to designing the kitchen, I always go back to the overall design concept to guide my finish choices. The biggest ticket item is the cabinetry, so I like to start there. In this model, I wanted it to feel light and airy but without going in the direction of the all-white kitchen, so I had my design choices reflect that by using a mix of lighter and darker toned cabinets that complemented the mid-tone flooring I chose for the house. The lower cabinets and the island have a beautiful darker tone, and the upper cabinets have a lighter wood. Then I went with this really beautiful quartz countertop with a soft-flowing grey veining throughout and a glass picket tile backsplash. For the plumbing and hardware, I topped it off with polished chrome finishes.
