HELLO! And welcome to my blog! I am so excited to start sharing my work in a more detailed way. Who knows, I might throw in some designer-y knowledge too. To kick it off, I’m going to show you MY HOUSE, starting with our modern rustic white kitchen. I believe they call this “a designer home tour”.
I’m in love with how our home is slowly changing and becoming what we want it to be. We moved into this house in 2015— about two-seconds before I had my first child, Elizabeth. Every ounce of effort I had, rather than unpacking and making the home cute, went into finishing her nursery. Yep, she hardly used the room the first year, and that fact is not lost on me. Classic first-time mom move.
It has now been almost four years (and one more sneaky kid, Christian, now 2 years old) and we are slowly going room by room making our boring builder home feel more custom and definitely more like us. Starting with the modern rustic white kitchen!
We purchased the home for its layout and ample space but the builder-grade finishes of the home left something to be desired. I actually loved the layout of the cabinetry as well so it felt wrong to tear out the cabinets since they were in great condition and functioned so well. Instead, we chose to paint them a nice bright white. We updated the lighting and counters and added some shiny new hardware. Later, we got a wild hair and decided to add tongue and groove paneling to the ceiling to help differentiate the kitchen, which is open, to both the breakfast area and our living room. The addition of a fun new light fixture over the sink was the final touch to complete this space!
