What’s your favorite part of staying in a hotel? The bed you don’t have to make? Treating yourself to room service? The fluffy towels and bathrobe? When I was designing the modern guest bedroom and bathroom for my English Hill East project, I kept coming back to that luxurious hotel-like feeling I wanted to evoke for my clients and their house guest who will use this space.

However, the driving factor behind my design for this modern guest bathroom was this giant, gorgeous mirror from Restoration Hardware. I fell in love with it (love at first sight is REAL, folks!) and designed everything around it. I then pulled in the bronze finish on the mirror with the darker wood vanity, and then with the darker accent tiles in the shower floor mosaic.

Here’s a better look at the mirror. Isn’t she lovely? We also went with matte black faucets to keep things looking chic and bring in a bit of sophistication to this modern guest bathroom. A pop of greenery keeps things looking fresh.

As for the shower, I wanted it to be a walk-in steam shower to continue the theme of feeling hotel-like and also be something functional for the family to use when guests aren’t in town. A built-in shower bench is always a plus too—perfect for enjoying the steam, helping you with shaving your legs, storing toiletries, etc.

And here’s a view that shows off the beautiful basketweave mosaic tile we installed. I love adding in fun details like this that make a space beautifully unique.
